AHHH!!!

Like literally 2 minutes ago we had an earthquake. And what am I doing…sitting here blogging about it. We were just sitting down to watch a movie when we feel shaking and can see our windows moving sideways. So far it has only happened once. 

This is so crazy!!! It’s really the first earthquake I can really remember experiencing.

MAUI!!!

Even though my family has been going to maui for over 10 years it is still just a fabulous as the first time we went. This trip was a little diiferent then most though. First. I was husbandless. That’s right, while I was out laying on the beach, Jacob was feverishly studying and taking test at dental school. Second, this trip was a lot more laid back then previous ones. Instead of booking our days with activites we decided to just go to beaches and hang out. I missed the scuba diving and catamaran trip but it was nice to not wake up early or feel rushed. We did get to go snorkeling and boogie boarding wich is always fun. Also, we went jet skiing for the first time in Maui. You can only do this when it isn’t whale season so we took advantage of the opportunity. We only went for an hour but that was plenty of time. We found out the Meredith and I like to scream and laugh and were probably the loudest people out there. It was a ton of fun with all the waves. The morning after jet skiing it felt like I had done a ton of squats though and my thighs were killing me lol.  During the week I was also able to finish two books. First was the last book in the twilight series, Breaking Dawn. It was good and I won’t say more then that for those who haven’t read it. However, I have to express my feelings about people who think this is the next Harry Potter or the best books ever. HECK NO! First off the twilight series is nowhere near as intricate and has quite a few errors in the text. If you feel they’re the best books you’ve ever read pleas go read some more books. With that being said I did read all of the twilight series and they are an enjoyable, quick read, kinda book. The second book I read was Welcome to the World Baby Girl by Fannie Flagg. It was a good book. A little slow at places but overall enjoyable. It’s about a women trying to become a famous news reporter back when it was mostly men in the business and also dealing with her personal history. So, before this gets any longer, i’ll conclude with how wonderful this vacation was and a big thanks to my parents for letting me tag along.

I’m back!

Well I got back from Maui on saturday and I am slowly transitioning back to San Francisco life. Luckily the weather has been beautiful here so it’s easier accepting this city as my home. I will be adding pictures of my Hawaiian vacation soon but I’m waiting to get some from my family members since I actually didn’t take a ton.

Random Happenings

A couple of days ago Emily and I went to a house that was giving away all their furniture. They were going to remodel so everything inside was kinda old and junky but free. I found this chair and really liked the fabric on the seat. The back needs a lot of work but I couldn’t pass up a free chair.

On Friday Tim and Emily threw a wax up and Office party. We had Hawaiian Haystacks, watched the office, and the boys waxed up some teeth.

On tuesday Emily, Joanna, and I went to the San Francisco Botanical Gardens. It was crazy to me how in the middle of a huge city they have these parks that make you feel so far away from city life. We then headed over to the De Young museum and rode an elevator to this great look out tower. Thanks Emily for planning this outing.

For one of my cooking classes at BYU I had to make a family cook book. I have created a page on our blog (see at the top titled recipes) for those recipes I choose to put in the cook book. I only put the ones I have made so far. I hope to continue adding recipes I like, to pass them on to everyone and more importantly have them easy to access. Enjoy!

Class Rep

At the beginning of the week jacob found out he had won the election for ADEA class representative. In order to get this position he had to write a statement of intent and then give a little two minute speech. (I guess Jacob’s speech was really good/funny because i kept hearing people compliment him) There were three people running for this position (including jacob) and you had to get at least 50% of the class vote. The were supposed to find out on friday night who had won but it came down to a tie breaker between jacob and some other guy. The class had to re-vote and Jacob came out triumphant! As class rep he gets to design the finals schedule and the older class reps say that people will hate you no matter what you do. On the bright side, he will get to go to Philadelphia and Arizona to participate in some sort of conferences. Other tasks include sitting in on the school’s curriculum committee and participate in the Associated Student Body. Also, this position is a 3 year gig so hopefully he likes it!

80 years

Last weekend the San Francisco Stake celebrated it’s 80th year. They celebrated by having Elder Cook and his wife give a fireside, a walking tour of the history of mormon’s in San Francisco, and a tour of the old cargo ship The Star of Alaska. Jacob and I attended the fireside  and ship tour but weren’t able to make the walking tour but hope to be able to do it on our own some time. Here are some pictures of the events.

Residency

Well it is official. I am now a resident of California. After spending one whole day sitting at the DMV I recieved my california drivers license and plates. While getting my new drivers license I filled out the paper work, took my picture, and was then told to go take a written test. All of the sudden flashbacks of me at 16 raced across my mind. For those of you who don’t know, it took me two times to pass the written. I blame this on the fact that I really know nothing about blood alcohol levels, since I don’t drink, and the actual laws on smoking. Anyways as I am taking the test I read that you can miss six and pass. Well, i missed exactly six! A few days later and I got california’s very yellow drivers license.

 

I actually have a horizontal liscense now!

Jacob was sad we had to get california plates. They are so boring and ugly.
